Indigo Books & Music - Stories Connect Us
Ideation, Design, Installation
2018
Indigo is Canada's largest book, gift, and specialty toy retailer, operating stores in all ten provinces and one territory, and through a website offering a selection of books, toys, home décor, stationery, and gifts. I was brought in as the senior designer for store graphics in 2018 as they were doing a complete redesign of the major stores. In this role I was asked to conceptualize, design, and work with factories to produce large scale and interactive pieces for the major flagship stores across Canada and the USA. In this new chapter of the stores, sections were created similar to a department store, each for a specific world of items, and always tying back to books and authors. Stories Connect Us was a campaign focused on mostly Canadian authors, artists, and poets, highlighting them and honouring their ability to bring us together.
Lenticular - These pieces were created to give the feeling of flipping pages in a book revealing different images and text. As you move your self past the pieces. the images and stories start to shift and change exposing various authors and artists.
Spinner - Located in the art and photography section of stores, this large piece works similarly to a vintage rotating billboard. Working with our factory partners, we developed a way to allow the pieces to be interactive and be played with by customers. The same images of artists were done in 3 different styles to give you control of creating your own artistic version of the image.
Quote Wall - Layered acrylic sheets with famous authors quotes have been "highlighted" and set to float above portraits of the authors. In some stores these are single pieces while in others they are collaged together to cover an entire wall.
